Gratitude

Philippians 4:12 (ESV): ‘I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.’

Without gratitude, it is impossible to be happy because it’s never enough and we always want more. This causes misery and dissatisfaction. Success is often defined in material terms, such as a job, status and possessions. Unfortunately, these things are meaningless without gratitude. Gratitude is, therefore, a state of mind to be cultivated, not a fleeting emotion dependent on circumstance.  If you wake up in a secure place, in good health, with access to food and water, there is already plenty to be grateful for! For anyone suffering from cancer, make a list of all the positives, it will be much longer than you think. Family, friends and access to quality healthcare shouldn’t be taken for granted. Be grateful for your blessings and the world will suddenly appear very different.
